If you know me or my wife, you've probably heard that we're expecting our first child in a few months. Hooray! :-)
Our friends and family have been very supportive (thanks!) but everyone seems to be warning about how the first three or fours months with a newborn baby will be disastrous to our sleep.
I'm not a very good sleeper, so I'm not too worried about it at this point. My wife is a champion sleeper, but the only problem is that she doesn't get as much of an opportunity to sleep as she's currently finishing up her residency as an OB/GYN doctor, which requires her to take 24+ hour shifts from time to time, and wake up at 5AM on a regular basis.
Anyway, if you've been through it and have a child or two of your own, did you have any tips on how to deal with the nocturnal intermissions? Thanks!

One of the women I work with recommended using a "nighttime nanny."- nannies who stay at your house only at night to attend to the new baby. This sounds pretty good, but apparently it's very expensive- about $200 per night!
That is pricey, but sleep is priceless. :-)
